A major train accident occurred in eastern Iran early on Wednesday, in which more than ten people died.

A passenger train derailed near Tabas City, due to which 13 passengers were killed and more than 50 are said to be injured.

Some of them are in serious condition. Local media reports said that the number of injured and dead could increase due to this train accident.

Four out of seven coaches of the train derailed in the early hours of today near Tabas. A team of relief workers along with an ambulance and three helicopters reached the spot.

The train accident happened some 50 km from Tabas, which is 550 km from the capital, Tehran. According to reports, the investigation into the accident is underway.

Earlier in 2016, there was a train accident in which dozens were killed and hundreds were injured. Every year about 17,000 deaths occur on Iran’s highways. Iran has the worst traffic conditions in the world.

At least 333 people were hanged in Iran in 2021. This is 25 percent more than the year 2020.
