Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tributes to ‘Lok Nayak’ Jayaprakash Narayan on his 119th birth anniversary.

The PM said that he had a remarkable personality who left an indelible mark on the history of India.

Apart from the PM, many leaders including Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh remembered him.

The Prime Minister tweeted, ‘Tributes to Lok Nayak JP on his birth anniversary. He left an indelible mark on the history of India.

He devoted himself to the cause of the public and welfare and was at the forefront of defending the democratic ethos of India. His ideals will always inspire us.

Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Ji, the leader of social justice and democracy.

He gave the country second freedom by raising the voice of a complete revolution against the arrogant government, which had left behind even foreign rule in injustice and exploitation during the Emergency.

His dedication to the country is admirable. Kotishah salute to such a Yug Purush.

His efforts and contribution to the defense of democracy in the country during the freedom struggle of India and after independence will always be remembered.

Jayaprakash Narayan was one of the prominent faces of the Quit India Movement and is best remembered for leading the opposition in the mid-1970s against Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The Janata Party came to power and under his guidance became the first non-Congress party to form a government at the Centre.

He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in 1999.
