Japan Said Warships Of China & Russia Were Seen In Senkaku

Japan said warships of China and Russia were seen near the disputed island.

Japan has protested strongly after China and Russia’s warships appeared on Monday near its waters in the disputed East China Sea.

Japan’s defense ministry said a Chinese warship was sighted for several minutes on Monday morning in a “disputed area” close to Japanese waters near Senkaku Island.

China also claims its claim on Senkaku Island and calls it Diaoyu. The ministry said the Russian warship was first spotted in the ocean, 40 minutes later confirming the presence of the Chinese warship.

However, it was not immediately clear what was the purpose of Sino-Russian military activity in the area. Japanese defense officials said that the ships may have come there to avoid the storm.

Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Seiji Kihara said Japan has lodged a “strong objection” to China over the incident.

“Senkaku Island is historically and under international law an inherent part of Japan’s territory,” Kihara said.

The government will deal with the matter peacefully but firmly in order to protect Japanese land, waters, and airspace. He said that there was no violation of the water area.

At the same time, in Beijing, China criticized Japan’s opposition, justifying the entry of the warship.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that the island is Chinese territory.

“The activities of Chinese ships in the ocean are legal and legitimate,” he told a daily press conference. Japan has no right to make such irresponsible statements.
