Fugitive Mehul Choksi case to be heard in Dominica court today, extradition will be decided; India will present evidence.

In the case of fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi wanted in the PNB Bank fraud case, the Dominica court will hear once again today.

Hearing in the case of extradition of diamond trader Mehul Choksi, who escaped from Punjab National Bank in a scam of Rs 13 billion, will be held today.

The accused Mehul Choksi is in the custody of Dominica these days and the matter regarding him is in the local court.

According to the information, this hearing will start at around 6.30 pm Indian time. Mehul Choksi’s case was heard in the Dominica court on Friday last week, which was adjourned till the next hearing on Wednesday.

Decision on extradition will be taken today.

The court of Dominica has put a stay on the extradition of Mehul Choksi for the time being. The Indian government is making every effort to ensure that he is brought back to India and made to face the law.

Choksi’s lawyers have filed a habeas corpus petition in this case. For this reason, the court had stayed his extradition in the last hearing.

In today’s hearing, India will present many strong shreds of evidence about Mehul Choksi in court. The Indian government has sent documents to confirm Choksi is a fugitive.

These papers are probably for a court hearing on Wednesday (June 2).

Leader of the Opposition in the Dominica House of Assembly Lennox Linton has said that some officials from India arrived in Dominica by business jet on Friday of last week and some more officials arrived yesterday.

Former CBI Director AP Singh has said before the hearing in Dominica Court today that as per the Interpol Red Corner Notice, Dominica can deport Mehul Choksi at any time as he has no legal right there.

But, if the Dominican court finds that Choksi was kidnapped and forcibly taken to Dominica, he would be deported to Antigua as his country of origin.

India camped in Dominica to bring Choksi: An eight-member team has camped in Dominica to bring Mehul Choksi.

This team, which went with full preparation, includes two officers each from the CBI, ED and the Ministry of External Affairs, besides two commandos of CRPF.

These people had left Delhi with documents against Mehul by a Qatar Airlines plane. This team, which arrived with full preparation, does not want to leave any stone unturned in its efforts.

According to sources, this team consists of officers of Mumbai Zone of CBI and ED. He was first called to Delhi where he was sent to Dominica after giving necessary instructions.

Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed the arrival of a special aircraft carrying the Indian team on Saturday.
