Elorda Cup: Women’s boxer Kalaivani enters the finals of the Elorda Cup, and Kuldeep also reaches the semi-finals.
Indian boxer Kalaivani Srinivasan on Saturday booked a place in the final with an impressive victory at the Elorda Cup in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan, while Kuldeep Kumar booked a ticket for the semi-finals.
Kalaivani displayed scintillating skill against Uzbekistan’s Farzana Fozilova in the women’s 48kg semi-final.
The Chennai boxer did not give any chance to the rival boxer by adopting strong strikes and a constant aggressive stance. She became the winner by unanimous decision.
Kuldeep gave India a winning start on the fourth day of the competition. However, he had to work hard for this victory.
Kuldeep faced a tough challenge from local boxer Kairat Yernoor in the men’s 48-kg quarterfinal bout. He, however, managed to register a 3-2 decision with his precise attack.
Meanwhile, another men’s boxer Yashpal lost 0-5 to Kazakhstan’s Aslanbek Shimbergenov in the 71kg quarterfinals.
Babita, Jyoti, and Neema get defeated.
Among women, Babita Bisht (81kg), Jyoti (52kg), and Neema (63kg) had to settle for bronze medals after losing in the semi-finals.
Babita had to face defeat against Zheng Lu of China. On the other hand, Jyoti and Neema suffered a similar 0-5 defeat against Feruza Kazakova of Uzbekistan and Anar Tursinbek of Kazakhstan respectively.
Savita’s challenge also ended in the quarterfinals. She lost 0-5 to Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Namiki Tsukimi of Japan in the 50kg category.

Tan defeated 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, Serena, in a 3-set match.
She then defeated British player Katy Boulter in consecutive sets at Wimbledon tennis on Saturday after defeating 32nd seed Sarah Sorribes Tormo.
