In the auction for IPL 2021, the Delhi team was sitting in their purse with Rs 12.8 crore, but despite such a small amount, this team managed to join some great players.

The Delhi team, coached by Ricky Ponting, succeeded in connecting a brilliant batsman like Steve Smith and bought Smith for just Rs 2.20 crore. Smith was released by Rajasthan for this season and he was also the captain of this team.

Apart from Steve Smith, this team also got Team India fast bowler Umesh Yadav from them at a base price i.e. just one crore rupees and both these players will make this team stronger.

At the same time, this team also bought the brilliant all-rounder Tom Curran for 5.25 crores. At the same time, this team also managed to buy Sam Billings along with them.

Apart from these players, Delhi also signed Raipal Patel, Vishnu Vinod, Lukman Meriwala, M Siddharth before this season. Delhi team reached the final of IPL for the first time in the 2020 season under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer.

The Delhi team had retained players like Kagiso Rabada, Prithvi Shaw, Marcus Stoinis, Shimron Hetmyer in addition to many Indian star players before this auction, while the team released players like Alex Carrie, Chemo Paul, and Jason Roy.

Chris Morris became the highest-selling player by joining the auction, but he is not the most expensive player in the league. The most expensive player in IPL is still Virat Kohli whom RCB gives Rs 17 crore as salary every year.
