Criminal Justice Behind Closed Doors Review: Web Series brings out the serious issue related to women from closed doors.

A few days before the fall of 2020, another much-awaited web series’ Criminal Justice – Behind Closed Doors’ has reached the viewers’ mobiles and laptops.

As the next offering of Hotstar Specials, the web series was released on 7 December in 7 languages on Disney Plus Hotstar.

‘Criminal Justice – Beyond Closed Doors’ is spread over a total of eight episodes and the duration of each episode is approximately one hour.

Before discussing any other aspect of ‘Criminal Justice – Behind Closed Doors’, it is necessary to mention its author Apoorva Asrani.

Apoorva, who was a film editor for years, was the first feature film ‘Aligarh’ as a writer, directed by Hansal Mehta.

Those who have seen ‘Aligarh’ will be able to easily understand the significance and imperative of the uniquely written ‘Criminal Justice – Behind Closed Doors’.

Through this web series, Apoorva, who has highlighted the pain and consternation of the gay community through Aligarh.

He has worked to bring an issue related to women from behind closed doors to the front, which is often not considered an issue.

‘Criminal Justice-Behind Closed Doors’ furthers Apoorva’s mission of portraying human sensibilities with being a court drama.

The story of the web series is just that Bikram Chandra (Jisshu Sengupta) is a well-known and successful lawyer of Bombay High Court.

At home is wife Anuradha Chandra (Kirti Kulhari) and 12-year-old daughter Riya (Adarija Sinha), who attends school.

Anuradha is a little lost. She has depression and stress, which is being treated by Dr. Moksha Singhvi (Ayaz Hussain Khan). Singhvi’s daughter Riddhi is Riya’s friend. The two families know each other well.

Bikram and Anuradha’s life seems complete, but one night, Anuradha tries to kill Bikram with a knife.

Vikram is seriously injured. Everyone is surprised by this step of Anuradha. Bikram’s clean image and affable nature make Anuradha not sympathetic to anyone.

Even daughter Riya starts hating her, Anuradha admits the crime before the police.

Senior police officer Raghu Salian (Pankaj Saraswat) calls lawyer Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi) to contest her case as no other lawyer is ready to contest Anu Chandra’s case.

Madhav convinces her to plead not guilty in court. But Anuradha, who suffers from guilt, confesses her crime in court too.

Despite Madhav Mishra’s explanation, her silence does not break. Meanwhile, Bikram dies in the hospital, and Anuradha is charged with murder, instead of attempting murder.

To save Anuradha, the only way in front of Madhav is to investigate himself and find the right and wrong. But Anu Chandra’s silence remains the biggest obstacle on his way.

During Madhav’s Investigation and Trial, many shocking things come to the fore and such secrets are revealed, which even today, question the rights of women.

The story of ‘Criminal Behind Closed Doors’ is straightforward and predictable. The writer has not even tried to confuse it with screenplay.

The focus thriller has been more of an issue than coherent, with short twists and turns. The layers of Vikram Chandra’s character begin to open as the series begins.

Due to which Bikram’s wife is forced to kill him and the essence of the entire series which is based on it, the viewer also gets an idea of the important reason in the opening scenes.

However, it is accurately revealed in the last episode.

Nevertheless, ‘Criminal Justice – Behind Closed Doors’ still maintains curiosity. Much of the credit goes to the emotions in the story and the cast of the series.

Struggling lawyer Madhav Mishra is as comfortable, equally vicious. Pankaj Tripathi has played Madhav Mishra with full vigor. In the serious story, Madhav and his wife Ratna feel relaxed.

Anuradha Chandra’s silence has deepened with her acting by Kirti Kulhari. A wife who is living amidst all the comforts with the fear that her husband may not feel bad about her.

Anuradha is educated, but her sense of inferiority has shaken her self-confidence. Kirti has managed to demonstrate this duality.

Anupriya Goenka has impressed with the presence of Madhav Mishra’s associate Nikhat Hussain.

Jishu Sengupta has brought out the dark side of Bikram Chandra’s character with success.

Other cast members include Deepti Naval (Vikram Chandra’s mother Vijji Chandra), Mita Vasistha (Senior Lawyer Mandira Mathur), Ashish Vidyarthi (Public Prosecutor- Dhipan Prabhu).

Shilpa Shukla (Ishani Nath-Kaidi), Kalyani Mule (Female Police Officer Gauri Pradhan ), Ajit Singh Pahlawat (Investigating Officer Harsh Pradhan and Gauri Pradhan’s husband).

Khushboo Atre (Ratna Mishra – Madhav Mishra’s wife) have kept the series afloat with their performances.
