Central Electricity Authority’s Daily Report: Shortage Of Coal

Central Electricity Authority’s daily report: 38 power plants in the country have less than a week of coal.

38 power plants with a combined capacity of 46,720 MW have less than seven days of coal reserves in the country.

This has been revealed in the data of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) on daily coal reserves. The figures are based on coal reserves as of Thursday, 22 April.

However, this CEA report states that none of the 135 power plants with a collective capacity of 1,66,406 MW in the country has a critical or very serious coal stock situation.

If a plant has less than seven days of coal reserves, it is considered a critical condition. At the same time, having coal reserves of less than three days is a very serious situation.

The CEA monitors the coal reserves in these plants on a daily basis. Regarding this situation, the CEA says that the coal reserves are low due to arrears or due to non-lifting of the proposed coal.

An expert in the power sector said that there may be reasons for CEA to classify a plant as serious or not serious in terms of coal reserves, but the fact remains that there is a shortage of coal in power plants.

In such a situation, electricity production may be affected due to increase in consumption with increasing heat in the coming days.

The total installed power capacity in the country as on 31 March 2021 was 377 GW. It has 200 GW coal-based, 48 MW hydro power and 93 GW renewable (solar or wind) power capacity.

Experts say that mainly solar or hydro power plants will increase production in summer. Despite this, coal-fired plants bear the main load of the total demand for electricity.

This is necessary for the stability of the grid and to meet the increasing power demand across the country during summer. In such a situation, the lack of coal cannot be ignored.

Importers will get customs clearance only by filling a form, CBIC takes steps to speed up imports.

To speed up the import of drugs related to oxygen and corona, the government is not willing to act on any front.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has provided a one-page online form for importers of such items.

In case of any delay in customs clearance, they will have to give information about the imported item and its use in this form. CBIC is the apex body responsible for customs duty and clearance.
