BPF To Play Constructive Opposition In BTC, Wins 17 Seats

BPF to play constructive opposition in Bodoland Territorial Council, wins 17 seats.

The BPF said on Saturday that it would play the role of constructive opposition despite emerging as the single largest party in the recently concluded election for the Bodoland Territorial Council.

BPF has got 17 seats in the 40-seat council. BPF was in the governance of the Bodoland Territorial Council for the last 15 years.

Speaking to reporters, BPF General Secretary Probiyan Boro said that we will try to play the role of constructive opposition for the wider interest of the people of the region.

He said that the Central Working Committee will meet on Sunday to decide the future strategy.

Let us tell that BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary has filed a petition in the Gohati High Court challenging the UPPL-BJP-GSP alliance.

Mohilary has opposed the alliance with the UPPL led BJP and the Gana Suraksha Party, saying that the BPF should be allowed to form the council for the first time as the largest party.

Boro said that BPF has challenged the formation of BTC by BJP-UPPL-GSP alliance. Justice Suman Shyam has directed the welfare department to submit a report.

The High Court has fixed December 22 as the next date of hearing.

Boro termed media reports about a meeting between BPF chief and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma at a hotel in Guwahati on Friday night as false and fabricated.

Sarma also denied that any such meeting was held. He said that there is no reason for our path to diverge for the 2021 assembly elections.

Significantly, the BJP fought the 2016 assembly elections together with the BPF and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

The BJP is currently the largest party in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly with 60 MLAs, while the BPF and AGP have 14 and 12 MLAs respectively.

Assembly elections are due in Assam in April-May next year.
