Assam and Maharashtra by-elections: Congress announces names of candidates.

The Congress on Monday announced the names of its candidates for the by-elections to be held in three assembly constituencies of Assam and one assembly constituency in Maharashtra.

Jowel Tudu, Bhaskar Dahal, and Manoranjan Konwar will try their luck in the by-elections from Gossaigaon, Tamulpur, and Thowra seats respectively in Assam and Deglur seats in Maharashtra.

At the end of last week, senior Congress leader and Maharashtra minister Ashok Chavan had told that six people came forward to contest on party tickets in the by-election to the Deglur assembly seat.

After the party meeting, Chavan said the bypoll to the seat was necessitated due to the death of sitting Congress MLA Raosaheb Antapurkar and his son Jitesh was also among those who intended to contest.

At the same time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also announced the names of its three candidates for the by-elections to be held on five seats of the Assam Legislative Assembly today.

All these MLAs are the same who joined BJP after winning the last election. The bypolls will be held on October 30 and the counting of votes will take place on November 2.

BJP has fielded Phanidhar Talukdar from the Bhawanipur seat, Rupjyoti Kurmi from Mariani, and Sushant Borgohain from Thavra.

Earlier on October 3, the BJP had released the names of candidates for the Maharashtra, Mizoram, and Telangana assembly by-elections.

Big news came from Telangana, BJP has fielded former Telangana Health Minister Etela Rajendra from Huzurabad.

Let us tell you that earlier in June, Rajendra switched parties and joined the BJP after leaving the TRS party.

He quit the TRS party after he was dropped from the Telangana cabinet amid allegations of land grabbing in the Medak district. However, he later claimed that he was unfairly targeted over the cracks.
