He was undergoing treatment in Singapore for the last 6 months. He had a kidney transplant in recent times. And he was 64 years old. Singh was admitted to the ICU at a hospital in Singapore and his family was present there.

Earlier in 2013, Amar Singh had kidney failure. He was a major leader in Indian politics who was from Uttar Pradesh and was one of the bigwigs of the Samajwadi Party. On the demise of Amar Singh, PM Modi wrote on Twitter, expressing grief that he was an energetic and public figure.

Amar Singh was very active on social media. He made two tweets just hours before news of the death came on Saturday. In which in the first tweet, he paid tribute to freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his death anniversary, and in the second tweet he congratulated people for Bakrid.
