AIADMK leader was expelled by party, arrested in sexual harassment case.
In the 2019 sensational sexual harassment case in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, the CBI has given the ruling AIADMK official K.K. Three people, including Arulanandam, have been arrested.
Thus, the number of people arrested in this case has increased to eight.
Within hours of the arrest, AIADMK leader and state Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister K.K. Palaniswami and O. Panneerselvam expelled Arulanandam from the party.
Despite this, the opposition DMK has targeted the AIADMK.
Police said on Wednesday that after the arrest, CBI produced the three accused in the women’s court from where they were remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
The CBI took up the case from the CB-CID and filed a charge sheet in May 2019.
The CBI has already arrested five people in the alleged sexual harassment case of a 19-year-old girl in Pollachi. Arulanandam is the leader of the AIADMK student unit in Pollachi town.
Two other people arrested with him are his friends. Meanwhile, around 50 members of various women’s organizations demonstrated outside the court and demanded speedy justice in the case.
The case came to light in February 2019 when a 19-year-old student lodged a police complaint that four men tried to tear her clothes in the car, video her and blackmail her.
The gang is believed to have sexually harassed and blackmailed a large number of women in Pollachi.
DMK President MK Stalin said, “This incident shows that women in Tamil Nadu are not safe.”
The DMK has been claiming for a long time that AIADMK officials are involved in the case. He said that no one should be spared in this matter.
Corruption case will continue investigation against Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa
The Karnataka High Court has refused to quash the FIR registered against the Chief Minister of the state BS Yeddyurappa for withdrawing the land notification.
This petition was filed by Yeddyurappa. Along with this, the court also ordered the Chief Minister to deposit Rs 25,000 as the cost of the case.
The court of Justice John Michael Cunha on Tuesday dismissed Yeddyurappa’s plea and directed the Lokayukta police to continue the investigation of the case.
It is noteworthy that this is the second time in a fortnight that the court has rejected Yeddyurappa’s petition.
Earlier on 23 December, the court rejected Yeddyurappa’s request to quash the criminal proceedings underway in another case for withdrawal of the land notification.
The case is about the withdrawal of notification of 1.11 acres of land in Gangnahalli, which is part of the Mataadahalli Layout at RT Nagar, Bengaluru.
Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and others are also charged in the case.
In 2015, the Lokayukta police registered a case against the accused under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code on the complaint of social worker Jayakumar Hiremath.
