US military reinforcements clear signal for Russia
A senior US military official said that the United States is not willing to clash with any other nation in Syria, but will defend coalition forces. He said about 100 additional troops have been sent to eastern Syria.
An American official, on the condition of anonymity, said that the strengthening of the US military in Syria is a clear sign for Russia. He said that there is also a message for Russia that it should desist from taking any action against American allies.
Russian attack on armored US military vehicle
Several incidents have increased this year between American and Russian forces patrolling in eastern Syria. The most serious conflict between the two armies occurred last month, when Russian vehicles attacked a light armored US military vehicle. Four Americans were injured in this attack.
American officials said at the time that two Russian helicopters also flew over the Americans. US officials said the Russian aircraft was about 70 feet from the American vehicle. The ministry said that Russia had informed the US-led coalition about the route of the Russian military police convoy and said the US tried to block Russian patrols.
