According to the report of Pakistani media, top US generals had warned US President Joe Biden that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons could threaten the country’s security if it left Afghanistan in a hurry.

US expresses concern: General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, before the Senate Armed Services Committee, said-

“We anticipate that a quick withdrawal will increase regional instability, Pakistan’s security, and the risks to its nuclear weapons.”

Emphasizing the need for an investigation into how the Taliban withstood US military pressure for 20 years, the report said, the general said that we need to thoroughly investigate the role of Pakistan’s safe haven.

On August 31, the US completed the withdrawal of its forces from Afghanistan under the Doha Agreement with the Taliban last year.

General Mark Milley and the leader of US Central Command, General Frank McKenzie, have also warned that the Taliban, which Pakistan will now have to deal with, will be different from the Taliban it has already dealt with and will complicate their relationship.

The report said the Centcom chief also said that the US and Pakistan are involved in ongoing talks on the use of an important air corridor to reach Afghanistan.
