US Bans Three Entities, Including 10 Military Officers Of Myanmar

US bans three entities, including 10 current and former military officers, in Myanmar.

The US on Thursday bans and imposed sanctions in Myanmar on three entities, including 10 current and former military officials, who led the recent coup against a democratically elected government and detained its leaders Aung San Suu Kyi and President Vin Myint.

Six of those individuals are part of the National Defense and Security Council and have been directly involved in the coup – Burmese military forces commander-in-chief Min Aung Hlaing, deputy commander-in-chief So Win, first vice president and retired lieutenant general Mint Swe, Lieutenant General Sean Win, Lieutenant General So Het, and Lieutenant General Ye Aung.

Among the four others in the sanctions is General Maia Tun Oo who was appointed as the Minister of Defense, Admiral Tin Aung San, who was appointed as Minister of Transport and Communications, Lieutenant General Ye Win Oo who was appointed Joint Secretary of the Council of State (SAC) Gaya, and Lieutenant General Aung Lin Dwe, who was appointed as Secretary of SAC.

In addition, three Burmese entities, Myanmar Ruby Enterprise, Myanmar Imperial Jade Company, and Canary (Gems & Jewelry) are facing US sanctions.

US Secretary of State Tony Blinken said, ‘These bans specifically target current and former members of the military who played a leading role in overthrowing Burma’s democratically elected government.

They do not target Burma’s economy or the people, and we are there to ensure that the Burmese people can get justice. ‘

On 1 February, before the scheduled meeting of Burma’s newly elected parliament, the military took over the leadership of the civilian government, with state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and President Vin Mynt, civil society leaders, journalists, and human rights activists was included.

Said Blinken. ‘We’ve made it clear, it was a coup, and we won’t sit idly by. This coup attempts to defy the will of the people of Burma as expressed during the November 2020 election.

Since 1 February, the people of Burma have shown their commitment to democracy through peaceful protest and civil disobedience. America stands with them. ‘
