Two Crore Worth Assets Seized: Kerala Gold Smuggling Case

Two Crore Worth Assets Seized: Kerala gold smuggling Case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized assets worth about Rs 1.85 crore in the Kerala gold smuggling case.

It also includes the property of M Shivshankar, former principal secretary of the Chief Minister’s Office. Shivshankar was arrested on 28 October after being found involved in the case.

He is currently in jail. The ED had registered a money laundering case based on an FIR filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA arrested Swapna Suresh and his associate Sandeep Nair, the main accused in the smuggling case, from Bangalore on 11 July. Many more accused have been arrested in this case.

On July 5, the Customs Department seized more than 30 kg of gold from diplomatic paraphernalia from the UAE at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in Kerala.

After this, the matter related to smuggling is being investigated.

At the same time, recently Swapna Suresh, the main accused in the case, approached the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Economic Offenses) and demanded to direct the Government of Kerala to provide security.

Swapna had claimed that she was receiving threats in jail. Congress MLA PT Thomas has demanded a probe from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the case.

She said in a press conference that the NIA should investigate it directly. Chief of Police and DGP (Jail) Rishi Raj Singh should be replaced at the time of the investigation.

Kerala Director General of Police Loknath Behera is using the police to obstruct the NIA’s investigation.

He questioned how Swapna, who is in judicial custody, can be threatened without the knowledge of the Chief Minister.
