Tough competition between Apple and Xiaomi, this became the world’s largest smartphone leader.
According to preliminary data shared by global market research firm Canalys, Apple has managed to grab the second spot in the global smartphone market, dropping Xiaomi to the third position.
The company was able to capture a market share of 15 percent in the third quarter of 2021, thanks to strong demand for the new iPhone 13.
Tough competition between Apple and Xiaomi: Samsung still holds on to the first place.
As per the data shared by Canalys, Samsung has managed to be at number one with 23 percent share, followed by Apple with 15 percent market share and Xiaomi with 14 percent share.
The fourth and fifth positions were occupied by Vivo and Oppo with a 10 percent market share.
The report shows that global smartphone shipments declined by 6 percent in the third quarter, due to the ongoing component crunch.
Chip shortages will reportedly continue well into 2022, with chipset makers increasing prices to discourage over-ordering.
This in turn is causing smartphone makers to reluctantly increase the retail prices of their devices.
Apart from chip shortages, local smartphone vendors are also being forced to implement last-minute changes in device specification and order quantity.
Maximizing volume capacity is important to them to reduce costs and increase margins, but these communication errors between them and the retail and distributor channels are causing confusion and inefficiency.
Because of this, many channels in the industry are currently very nervous about going into important sales holidays.
