Tomar appeals to farmers – end the agitation and talk to the government.

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has appealed to the farmers to end their agitation and come to the negotiating table with the government.

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, in an address on Friday, appealed to the farmers of Punjab to end their protest and negotiate with the government to resolve the deadlock over three new agricultural laws.

Significantly, Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar is currently leading the government’s negotiations with 40 farmer unions.

Tomar hoped that farmers would understand the importance of these three agricultural laws and would discuss this with the government to reach a solution to break the ongoing impasse.

Saying that there is some misunderstanding in the minds of the farmers of Punjab, the Agriculture Minister said that I want to urge them to leave the protest and come forward for talks.

I hope farmers will understand the importance of new laws and reach a solution.

Thousands of farmers and their family members have been protesting at various borders in Delhi for almost a month (30 days), demanding the repeal of the three agricultural laws.

Today is the 30th day of the farmers’ demonstration. So far, five rounds of formal talks between the Center and 40 protesting farmers’ unions have not reached any conclusion.

The government has also invited the farmers twice for the next round of talks. The government has written letters to farmers twice about this.

Besides Tomar, Food, Commerce and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Som Prakash are participating in discussions with 40 farmer unions.

Opposing organizations believe that the new agricultural laws will eliminate the safety net of the minimum support price, do away with the mandi system and leave them at the mercy of the big corporate.
