Police raided a man’s house in the Khansahib area of ​​Budgam district and recovered a 1200 year old idol of Maa Durga from his possession. This person was trying to sell this idol secretly.

In time the police came to know about this and raided the police recovered the idol and handed it over to the Archaeological Department. The department will examine this idol in detail.

According to the information received from the police, on August 13, while clearing sand and gravel from the Jhelum river in the Pandrethan area of ​​Srinagar, the workers working there had found this statue.

After that, this idol reached Nawaz, a resident of the Yarikhah area and he hides the idol of Maa Durga in his house.

He had come to know that this idol is years old and by selling it he can earn a good amount of money. Before he could find the buyer of this idol, the police got information about the idol.

The Budgam Police raided the house of Nawaz Ahmed Sheikh’s son Abdul Rashid, a resident of the Yarikhah area of ​​the Khansahib area, and recovered the ancient idol on search.

On finding the idol, the police handed it over to the Archaeological Department for investigation.

In the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that this idol of Maa Durga is about 1200 years old. According to the report, this idol of Goddess Durga riding on a lion is made of black stone.

Confirming this, Mushtaq Ahmad Baig, Deputy Director of the Department of Archeology, said that the statue will be under the protection of the department for the time being.

Meanwhile, SSP Budgam Tahir Salim Khan said that Nawaz Ahmed Sheikh is being questioned about how the idol reached Sheikh.
