Telangana Garima Awas Yojana: Decision was taken to hand over 85000 houses to GHMC by December 2020. Under the Garima Awas Yojana in Telangana, 85000 houses will be handed over to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) by December 2020. Telangana IT, Industry and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao informed about it on Wednesday.

Rao made this comment during a meeting to review the status of dignity housing schemes in Hyderabad. He said that by December 2020, the government will hand over a total of 85 thousand dignity houses within the GHMC limits. He said that no metro city in the country has built such a large number of dignity houses under any program.

Instructions for preparing the list of beneficiaries by the middle of September

During the meeting, the minister has directed the officials to finalize the list of beneficiaries by mid-September. He has also ordered the officials to visit the dignity accommodation sites and inspect the construction works.

Rs 9,700 crore allocated for houses

According to officials, the government has allocated a total of Rs 9,700 crore for the construction of these houses. The government will build one lakh houses in 4000 constituencies of Hyderabad with 4000 houses each. This goal will be reached by December. Construction works at most sites are in the finishing phase, with the minister also ordering officials to expedite the development of basic facilities including water supply, electricity, and other facilities.

Order to identify beneficiaries

Officials informed the minister that a total of 75,000 2BHK dignity houses and 10,000 dignity houses would be ready by the end of December under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana (VAMBAY). The minister has ordered the officials to identify beneficiaries handing over land for the construction of 2BHK dignity houses and update their details.
