Taliban captures many more Afghan cities, may start an attack on the capital Kabul soon.

Taliban insurgents have also captured Kandahar and Lashkargah, Afghanistan’s second and third largest cities.

Local officials say the Taliban could attack the capital Kabul in a few days. Herat in the west has also come under the control of radical Islamist groups.

Fighting continues between government forces and the Taliban in Logar province, 80 km from Kabul.

The Taliban claim to have captured 14 of the country’s 34 provincial capitals. It already has control over most of the rural areas.

In a major blow to the government on Friday, the Taliban captured the major city of Kandahar. Kandahar has a special significance in Afghanistan.

It is believed that the one who has Kandahar rules Afghanistan, as it is the main trading city of the country. It has an international airport and shares its provincial borders with Pakistan and Iran.

This city is also special to the Taliban because it was born here. Mullah Omar, who was killed in a US drone attack, formed the Taliban in Kandahar itself.

The Taliban has also captured the city of Herat, with a population of six million, near the border with Iran.

Ghulam Habib Hashimi, a member of the provincial council, told on the phone that the city has started looking haunted in recent times.

There is silence on the roads here and there are signs of ruin all around. People have fled their homes or they are hiding in homes.

At the same time, Muhammad Ismail Khan, the head of the anti-Taliban militia, known as the Sher of Herat, has been taken into custody but there is no news of any misconduct with him.

The armed fighters of his militia have allied with the Taliban. The government has also accepted that this commercial center of the south has now gone out of its hands.

However, Mazar-e-Sharif and Jalalabad, which are among the major cities of the country, remain under the control of the government. The government is firmly occupied in the capital Kabul as well.
