Sri Lanka Expects Support From India In UNHRC

Sri Lanka expects support from India in UNHRC, read- complete case.

Sri Lanka on Tuesday hoped that India would stand by it when the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) makes its new accountability and reconciliation proposal related to it this month.

Just a few days earlier, the United Nations in a report called for drastic measures against those responsible for alleged violations of human rights during the last phase of the armed conflict with the LTTE.

Government spokesperson and Minister Kehlia Rambukwela said that the Sri Lankan government expects support from the Government of India on the proposal to be brought against the country in the sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The proposal criticizes the country for war crimes and threatens to drag those responsible for it to the international court.

In addition, there have been calls for sanctions against officials allegedly responsible for human rights violations.
