Smriti Irani: Government working on PLI scheme for textiles.

The Ministry of Textiles is preparing such a system under which production-linked incentives can be given to technical textiles and manmade fiber segments.

Union Minister Smriti Irani gave this information on Friday. The Union Minister also said that a new textile policy will also come soon. The current policy came two decades ago.

Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani said these things while addressing ASSOCHAM Foundation Week 2020 through virtual medium.

She said, ‘At the beginning of the Corona epidemic no one had any idea how India would cope with it.

Today as a textile minister, I can say that during this period, the Indian textile industry created the biggest example of change by manufacturing PPE.

This industry contributed significantly to meeting the demand for masks etc. The textile industry was not ready for this, but facing the challenge, this industry moved forward.

All ministries and industry organizations also supported this effort.

She said that India has become the second largest manufacturer and exporter of PPE today.

The Union Minister also spoke on issues such as agricultural reforms and the minimum support price (MSP). She said that the government is constantly trying to ensure that the MSP system is strengthened.

Farmers are getting the cost of the crop directly into the account. Irani said that sudden steps have not been taken towards agricultural reform.

Discussions were going on between them for 19 years between various industries, agriculture sector and farmer organizations. This will benefit the farmers, industry, and common citizens.

During this, Assocham President Niranjan Hiranandani assured full support from the industry towards the self-reliant India campaign and the goal of making the country a five trillion dollar economy.
