SIT awaits forensic report in Nagaland firing, 14 people were killed.

The SIT set up to probe the killing of 14 people in Nagaland’s Mon district last month in firing by security forces has said it is waiting for the forensic report.

After getting the findings of the forensic investigation, SIT will submit the final report in court.

SIT observer and Nagaland Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sandeep Tamgadge told reporters that 85 civilians and 37 security forces have been questioned in this case.

These include 31 army personnel who had gone out for military action against the militants. Apart from this, the investigation team has visited the spot several times.

“The soil and blood samples have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratories in Guwahati and Hyderabad and we are awaiting their report,” the SIT said.

As soon as we get the conclusion of the forensic investigation, we will start preparing the final report. Then it will be presented in court.

Talmadge said that after the final report is presented in court, everyone can know about its outcome. But before that, it will not be legally valid to tell anything about it.

He said that we have worked hard in completing the investigation and have reached this far. At the moment it is difficult to say how long it will take for the forensic report to come.

The Naga Students’ Federation on Friday urged the SIT to expedite the investigation to ensure timely justice to the victims in the 14 civilian killings.

The federation said that more than a month has passed since the formation of the SIT, but it is yet to submit the final report.
