Showing Obsession With Football Players Is Against Islam, Says Kerala Cleric

Showing obsession with football players is against Islam, says Kerala Cleric.

An influential Sunni Muslim organization in Kerala has come out against the football-obsessed Muslim youth in the state.

A cleric of the organization has said it is un-Islamic to put up large cutouts of star players in support of teams participating in the World Cup and show an obsession with football personalities.

Wrong to put big cutouts of stars.

Nassar Faizi Koodathayi, general secretary of Qutba Samiti under Samastha Kerala Jam-Ayatul Ulama, termed as wrong the installation of huge cutouts of favorite football stars like Argentina’s Lionel Messi, Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar Jr.

Football fans are worried. The cleric further said that hoisting Portuguese flags in Kerala is also wrong as it had forcibly ruled many countries.

Students lost interest in studies due to World Cup.

The cleric also spoke about the lack of interest among the students in studies due to the ongoing Football World Cup in Qatar.

The cleric said that it was not right for Indian citizens to respect and wave the flags of other countries instead of the national flag. However, he added that the organization is not against football.

Football is becoming a fever.

The cleric further said that the game should be viewed with the spirit of a sportsman. Football is becoming a fever and people are getting addicted to it.

This is not a good practice. According to Koodathayi, football should be promoted simply as a sport that encourages physical activity.

He said, “Instead now football has become a fever, and fans are engaged in worshiping football stars.

Kerala is known for its crazy football fans.

Let us tell you that Kerala is known for its crazy fans of football.

This time too, giant cutouts of football stars including Messi, Neymar Jr, and Ronaldo were seen across the state as the Football World Cup began.

At the same time, some fans took out a rally and showed their support by waving the flags of their respective teams.
