SC Reserved Verdict On Bail Plea Of Gautam Navlakha

SC reserved verdict on bail plea of Gautam Navlakha: Bhima Koregaon case.

The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday reserved its verdict on the bail plea of Gautam Navalakha. In the petition, Navlakha requested bail in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist affair of the Bhima Koregaon case.

A bench of Justices UU Lalit and KM Joseph reserved their verdict after hearing the arguments of the lawyers appearing for Navlakha. Kapil Sibal from Navlakha and Additional Solicitor General SV Raju from NIA argued.

It may be known that on March 3, the Supreme Court sought a response from the NIA on the petition of Gautam Navalakha.

The petition said that Navalakha should be granted bail due to the non-filing of the charge sheet in the case.

According to the police, on 31 December 2017, some activists gave alleged provocative speeches at the Elgar Parishad meeting held in Pune.

Due to these, violence erupted in Koregaon Bhima the next day. The police also allege that some Maoist groups also aired this violence.

Earlier, the High Court had said that it does not see any reason for interfering with the order of the special court. Navalakha’s bail plea was rejected by the special court on 12 July 2020.

Navlakha moved the High Court last year challenging this order of the special NIA court. The High Court reserved its decision on 16 December last year on a petition filed by Navlakha.

Navlakha had argued that he has been in custody for more than 90 days but the prosecution failed to file a charge sheet.
