Ripudaman Singh Malik was shot dead in Surrey in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Malik was shot and killed in Surrey on Thursday morning (local time) while on his way to work.
Ripudaman Singh Malik was acquitted in the 1985 Air India (Air India Flight 182 ‘Kanishka’) terrorist bombing.
Confirming the news, Malik’s brother-in-law Jaspal Singh told the news agency, “We are not aware of who killed Ripudaman.
His younger sister is going to Canada. Let us tell you that Malik was one of the persons who was accused of playing a key role in the bombing of Air India Flight 182 ‘Kanishk’.
329 people were killed in the bombing.
On 23 June 1985, a bomb exploded on Air India Flight 182 ‘Kanishq’ from Canada off the coast of Ireland, killing 329 passengers and crew.
This included more than 280 Canadian citizens, including 29 entire families and 86 children under the age of 12.
Ripudaman Malik was allegedly associated with the terrorist organization Babbar Khalsa responsible for several terrorist incidents in Punjab and was also a close associate of the alleged mastermind of the Air India bombing Talwinder Singh Parmar.
The Babbar Khalsa, an international terrorist organization, is banned by many countries including the US, Canada, and India.
The bombing was planned in Canada.
Malik and his co-accused Ajaib Singh Bagri were acquitted of the charges of mass murder and conspiracy in 2005.
Malik spent four years in prison before his acquittal and later demanded US$9.2 million in legal fees, however, a British Columbia judge rejected his claims for compensation.
