Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal, known as the Big Three even before the start of the first Grand Slam of the year.
The Australian Open was tied with 20 Grand Slam titles and the trio were in a race to lead the way by winning their 21st title.
In such a situation, this time the Australian Open was expected to be very exciting, but Djokovic and Federer, the two pillars of the Big Three, could not be a part of this tournament due to different reasons.
In such a situation, all eyes were on Spain’s Nadal and he left everyone behind by winning the thrilling men’s singles final match played at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Sunday.
Sixth seed Nadal won a record 21st Grand Slam title by winning the second Australian Open of his career. He won the title by defeating Daniil Medvedev of Russia in a five-set thriller.
Rafael Nadal won the second Australian Open: Nadal’s record of 21 Grand Slams in 17 years.
The journey that started with the French Open in 2005 has now reached 21 Grand Slams. Nadal created history by proving his kingship by achieving the 21st Grand Slam.
Now he has become the player to win the most slams. He has 2 Australian Open, 13 French Opens, 2 Wimbledon, and 4 US Open titles to his name.
He has overtaken Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to win a total of 21 Slams.
King of red gravel.
In 2005, Nadal got the first Gland Slam of his career in Red Gravel i.e. Franz Open. After this, he did it for the next four consecutive years in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
In the year 2009, he could not achieve it, but after that again played his dunk for 5 years and made it his name from 2010 to 2014. From 2017 till now, he has remained in the French Open and he has won it.
Nadal came back from two sets to beat Medvedev 2-6, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 in a match that lasted five hours and 24 minutes.
This effort by Nadal is one of the best efforts to come back from a lag in tennis. Nadal is the first player since Rai Emerson in 1965 to win the Australian Open final despite losing the first two sets.
Nadal has now overtaken the race for the Big Three.
Djokovic was deported from Australia a day before the start of the Australian Open for not getting a corona vaccination, while Federer could not play due to injury.
In the absence of these two giants, Nadal was a strong contender for this title. This is the 35-year-old Nadal’s second title at the Australian Open and the first he won in 2009.
Nadal’s victory is also spectacular because he was out of the tennis court for most of the last year.
He was also infected with Corona. This was his first major tournament after making a comeback, but he not only made a comeback but also created history.
