PM Modi urges UN Chief to investigate the Congo attack case. PM Modi discusses with UN Secretary-General, urges investigation into Congo attack case.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres held a phone conversation on Friday.

During the phone conversation, Modi called for bringing the perpetrators of the Congo attacks to justice. Urged to ensure speedy investigation.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) gave this information in a statement on Friday.

According to the PMO, Modi and Guterres discussed the recent attack on the UN peacekeeping mission in Congo, in which two Indians were killed.

The UN Secretary-General assured all possible action for a speedy investigation into the matter.

PM Modi urges UN Chief to investigate the Congo attack case: The PMO said that Prime Minister Modi apprised Guterres of India’s commitment to the UN peacekeeping mission.

He added that 250,000 Indian peacekeepers have served under it so far and 177 Indian peacekeepers have made their supreme sacrifice, which is also the highest number of peace messengers of any country.

During the conversation, Guterres expressed condolences to the families of the martyred personnel of the Indian Border Security Force, as well as to the Government of India and its people.

He strongly condemned the attack on the UN peacekeeping mission in Congo and assured all possible action for a speedy investigation.

According to the PMO, Prime Minister Modi underlined India’s unwavering support for peace and stability in Congo, where 2,040 Indian troops are currently stationed.

After the death of Indian peacekeepers in the attack on the UN mission in Congo, India called a meeting of the UNSC and ensured that a strong statement is issued by the Security Council of 15 countries.

There has been a demand for accountability for the killing of peacekeepers.

On July 26, two Border Security Force personnel, Head Constables Shishupal Singh and Sawala Ram Vishnoi, and a Moroccan peacekeeper were killed in an attack on a UN peacekeeping mission in Congo’s North Kivu.

Hours after the attack, India, a non-permanent member of the Security Council, called a meeting of the Council to discuss the situation.

A day later, the UN Security Council issued a press statement strongly condemning the attacks and calling on Congolese authorities to swiftly investigate the attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice.
