Trump said that Modi will visit America in February. Trump said that India will take the right steps in taking back illegal immigrants and he discussed immigration with Modi.

During this, both leaders resolved to take India-US relations to greater heights and work together for global peace and security. Trump has taken oath as the President of America on January 20, 2025.

PM did not attend Trump’s swearing-in ceremony

There was talk of Prime Minister Modi’s participation in Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, but it did not happen. However, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar attended that ceremony as Modi’s special representative.

These issues were discussed between the two

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the PMO said that Modi and Trump discussed measures to promote bilateral cooperation in areas such as technology, trade, investment, energy, and defense. Also, there was a discussion on global issues such as the situation in West Asia and Ukraine. Both the leaders also agreed to meet soon. However, the Trump administration has so far given mixed signals regarding its relations with India.

PM Modi to Visit America: 18 thousand Indians can be sent back

Foreign Minister Marco Rubio held his first meeting with Jaishankar after assuming office, in which all aspects of bilateral relations were discussed. The US side has raised the issue of sending back 18,000 Indians living illegally.

Apart from this, Trump has also announced higher import duties from countries that impose higher duties on US products. However, India has not been included in this list yet.
