Perpetrator Tahawwur Rana Opposes Extradition To India

Perpetrator Tahawwur Rana opposes extradition to India: Mumbai terror attack.

Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana, a perpetrator of the terror attack on India’s financial capital Mumbai, has protested his extradition to India.

Rana’s lawyers argued that the court had already acquitted him in the case on which he was to be extradited to India.

Let us tell you that on the 26th of November 2008, terrorists from Pakistan terrorized Mumbai. 166 people were killed in the attack. Six US citizens were also among those who died.

India has declared Rana a fugitive. Rana, 59, a childhood friend of David Coleman Headley, was arrested again on June 10 in Los Angeles, USA, at the request of India.

India then demanded his extradition from the US for his involvement in the Mumbai attack.

Headley, a Pakistani-American and Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, was involved in plotting the 2008 Mumbai attack.

He was made an official witness in the case and is currently serving a 35-year sentence in a US prison for his role in the attack.

The motion to protest Rana’s extradition was filed earlier this week in Los Angeles by Judge Jacqueline Chelonian of the US district court by her lawyers.

His lawyers argued before the court that Rana cannot be extradited under Article 6 of the US-India extradition treaty. This is because Rana is already acquitted of the crimes for which extradition is sought.

Not only this, under Article 9 of the treaty, Rana has committed the crime, the government has not been able to prove this charge.

In such a situation, the extradition of Rana will not be lawful. On the other hand, the US government supporting the extradition of Rana will also file its proposal in this matter soon.
