Pakistan on Monday inducted a Chinese-made multi-role frigate and 10 helicopters supplied by Qatar into its Navy.

According to a statement issued by the Pakistan Navy, the PNS Tugril frigate and 10 Sea King helicopters were inducted into the naval fleet at a ceremony held at the ‘Dockyard’ in Karachi.

The contract for four frigates for the Pakistan Navy was signed between Pakistan and China in June 2018.

At the same time, Sea King helicopters have been gifted by Qatar to Pakistan. PNS Tugril is the first of its kind to be built at a shipyard in Shanghai.

Elaborating on the merits of the Chinese-made multi-role frigate, Pakistan Navy Chief Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi said that the Type 054A/P is a powerful platform, equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors.

Niazi said that this ship has been specially designed for combat strategies, where it has the ability to fight in a multi-threat environment.

Not only this, the ship can generate the required firepower in multiple domains with supersonic surface-to-surface cruise missiles, anti-submarine warfare torpedoes, and air defense missiles.

The Navy’s combat capability will increase with this ship.
