Notice to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Rahul Gandhi, Anurag Thakur, and Manish Sisodia as well: Delhi Riots 2020.

In the case of riots in North East Delhi in February 2020, the court hearing continues even after 2 years.

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice and sought a response on a petition seeking registration of an FIR against the leaders of various parties who made inflammatory speeches during the Delhi riots.

A bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and AJ Bhambhani observed that it is necessary to issue notices so that they get an opportunity to respond.

The bench asked why the leaders should not be made parties in the pending petition. The next hearing will be on March 22.

On the petition of the Lawyers’ Voice Association, the bench has heard the petition and issued notice against Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi.

Also against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Amanatullah Khan, AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, Waris Pathan, Advocate Mehmood Pracha.

Notices have been issued to Harsh Mander, actress Swara Bhaskar, and others also.

The petition has demanded the formation of a special team for investigation against the police officers.

Earlier on the petition, Delhi Police had told the court that the police has already formed three Special Investigation Teams (SITs) and so far there is no evidence that its officers were involved in the violence.

In the first affidavit, the police had said that no such evidence has come to the fore to prove that the leaders instigated or participated in the violence.

During the hearing, the bench said that they have to give an opportunity before implementing it. If they protest we cannot enforce it.

Significantly, during the Delhi riots in February 2020, a large number of people lost their lives. More than 50 people had died and crores of rupees were lost.
