NHRC Seeks Report In Assam Doctor Assault Case

NHRC seeks report in Assam doctor assault case, asks for action in four weeks.

The National Human Rights Commission has ordered the Assam government and the state police chief to investigate the deadly attack on a doctor at a COVID center in the Hojai district.

NHRC said to take punitive action and submit its report within four weeks. Government official gave this information on Friday. He said that NHRC took action on Thursday after taking cognizance of the matter.

According to the information, the commission said that in this case, a copy of each of the complaints should be sent to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police of the state.

The necessary, preventive, and punitive action may be taken in the matter. The report of this action should be sent to the commission within four weeks.

NHRC seeks report in Assam doctor assault case: The video of the beating of notable Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati is going viral on the internet media. In this, many people including women are seen attacking.

A senior official said that we had received a complaint letter regarding the incident on June 2.

The NHRC has taken cognizance of the matter and sought a report from the Assam government. Police have arrested 24 people in this connection.

CJI Ramana advocates modernizing the courts.

In the first virtual meeting with Chief Justices of various High Courts to review the functioning of courts during the pandemic, the issue of court infrastructure came up in front of CJI NV Ramana.

On this, CJI Ramana strongly advocated for modernizing the courts. A virtual meeting between the CJI and the Chief Justices was held on June 1 and 2.

CJI Ramana suggested setting up of the National Judicial Infrastructure Corporation, which would modernize the court complex.

He said that there should be a permanent facility of video conferencing in the courts across the country. During this, CJI Ramana also emphasized on filling up the vacant posts in various High Courts.

The total sanctioned posts of judges in the country’s 25 high courts are 1,080, according to data available on the Department of Justice’s website, but only 660 are appointed and 420 are vacant.
