NC Will Now Be Part Of The Delimitation Process In J&K
NC will now be part of the Delimitation Process In J&K. The opposing NC will now be part of the delimitation process.
The attitude of the National Conference (NC) opposing the delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir seems to be changing. In fact, opposition to the issue of delimitation has started raising voices in the party.
The party leadership has now decided to form a committee to handle the situation and be part of the delimitation process.
A large section of the National Conference is in favor of being part of the delimitation process.
This class wants the three MPs to be involved in all the next meetings of the Delimitation Commission to ensure the protection of the political and social interests of the party.
Under the Jammu Kashmir Reorganization Act 2019, the state of Jammu Kashmir has been reorganized into two union territories, Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh.
Under this Act, there is a Legislative Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir. Delimitation has to be done in the state before the assembly is formed.
For this, on 6 March 2020, the Delimitation Commission was constituted under the chairmanship of former Supreme Court Judge Ranjana Prakash Desai.
Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra, Election Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir, and four other states were made ex officio (ex-officio) members.
Now the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir will be ex-officio members. It has five MPs from Jammu and Kashmir.
Five of the three MPs are Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Justice (retd) Hasnain Masoodi, and Mohammad Akbar Lone of National Conference.
Dr. Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma are from BJP. In March 2021, the Central Government has extended the term of the Delimitation Commission by one more year.
The National Conference was against the Delimitation Commission from the very first day.
It is demanding restoration of the constitutional position in Jammu and Kashmir before August 5, 2019.
The National Conference has termed the Delimitation Commission as against the interests of Jammu and Kashmir and has not participated in a single meeting since March 2020.
The NC has boycotted the commission. During the last eight months, voices of protest are constantly emerging about the party’s stated policy regarding delimitation in the National Conference.
After the District Development Council elections, this tone has started getting louder.
Although the voices have not yet been made public, many leaders of the Kashmir and Jammu divisions have often insisted on reconsideration of the boycott decision at the party meeting.
The issue arose in front of Farooq: Last week, when Farooq Abdullah discussed the political situation of the state in a video conference with the leaders of the party executive, the issue of delimitation also got louder.
Looking at the matter, Farooq had reportedly said that whatever decision will be taken, it will be accepted by all.
For this, a committee will be formed which will take a decision after deliberating on all the issues.
Masudi said – theoretically against the process of delimitation: Hasanain Masudi, MP from Anantnag-Pulwama parliamentary constituency, said that in the meeting held on Thursday, all the leaders have openly expressed their views on the issue of delimitation.
Though we are against the process of delimitation in principle, Jamhooriyat also has a demand of its own. No one or two people decide the policies of NC.
We decide our stand on an issue on the basis of interaction with all senior leaders and only on the feedback of common workers.
Farooq stated clearly in the meeting that a committee will be formed. This committee will study the entire matter, interact with all senior leaders.
