MOD Imposed Ban On Import Of 351 Defense Equipments

MOD imposed a ban on the Import of 351 defense equipments. Another step towards self-reliance, the Ministry of Defense(MOD) imposed a ban on the import of 351 defense equipment.

The Ministry of Defense has taken another step towards self-reliance and indigenization. The Defense Ministry on Wednesday banned the import of 351 subsystems and components.

According to a report by the leading news agency, the Defense Ministry announced a new list of 351 pieces of equipment that will not be allowed to be imported under the deadline starting December next year.

This is the third list released by the ministry in the last 16 months.

This decision has been taken with the aim of making the country a center for the manufacturing of military equipment.

The leading news agency has said in its report that the ministry has also released a list of 2,500 items that are being produced in the country.

It has been said about them that the equipment has already been indigenous.

The Ministry of Defense is continuously taking such steps as part of efforts to achieve self-reliance in defense production and reduce dependence on imports.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense, it has been said that in the next three years, 351 imported items will be indigenised.

According to the leading news agency, the notification of the new list was issued on Monday.

The ministry said that the items mentioned in the list would be procured from Indian industries only as per the indicated timelines.

As per the notification, the ban on import of the first set of 172 components will come into effect by December next year while the ban on import of the second batch of 89 components will be in force till December 2023.

Not only this, restrictions on the import of another set of 90 items will be applicable till December 2024.

The items banned by the Defense Ministry include laser warning sensors, high-pressure check valves, high-pressure globe valves, intrusion detection systems, various types of cables, sockets, and oscillators.

It may be mentioned that in August last year, the Defense Ministry had announced that India would completely stop the import of 101 weapons and military platforms such as transport aircraft, light combat helicopters, conventional submarines, cruise missiles, and sonar systems by 2024.
