Margaret Alva Will Be The Opposition’s Candidate For VP

Margaret Alva will be the opposition’s candidate for the post of Vice President, Sharad Pawar announced.

Margaret Alva will be the opposition candidate for the country’s next Vice Presidential post. NCP chief Sharad Pawar made this announcement at a press conference on Sunday.

The last date for filing nominations for the Vice Presidential election is July 19.

Sharad Pawar said that 17 parties took part in the meeting and everyone’s collective thinking is that Alva will file a nomination for the post of Vice President on Tuesday.

Pawar also said that efforts are on to approach Mamata Banerjee and Arvind Kejriwal for a joint vice-presidential candidate.

He said that last time both the leaders had supported the joint presidential candidate of the opposition.

The NDA has nominated West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as its candidate for the post of Vice President. His candidature was announced on Sunday evening.

The opposition has nothing against the government, trying to create issues without talking: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi.

The government on Sunday hit out at the opposition, saying it was making non-issues an issue and trying to tarnish the image of Parliament.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, addressing reporters after the all-party meeting ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, said the government is ready to discuss all issues as per the rules and procedures of Parliament.

He also slammed the opposition for creating controversy over the list of unparliamentary words and circulars being issued regularly for the past several years.

He said such a practice has been in place since 1954 when the first such list was presented. . He said that the opposition is doing this because it has no issue against the government.

Joshi claimed that the government is “doing a good job” and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership has been recognized by the people not only within India but also abroad.

“The opposition is trying to make non-issues an issue as it has nothing against the government,” Joshi told reporters after the all-party meeting.
