Major Blow to Maoists: 18,000 Detonators Recovered in Jharkhand’s Saranda Forest
Major Blow to Maoists: In a major success, Jharkhand Police and CRPF recovered 18,000 detonators from Maoist-affected Saranda forest during a joint operation in West Singhbhum.
Security forces on Tuesday achieved a major success in the ongoing operation against Maoists in western Singhbhum district. Police have recovered 18,000 detonators hidden in the jungle and hilly paths leading to Husipi village under Maoist-hit Tonto police station in the dense forest of Kolhan, adjacent to Saranda.
These detonators are used by the Naxals to make IEDs. Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan confirmed that we had received a tip-off that militants of the banned CPI-Maoist organization had hidden ammunition in the village of Husipi/a hilly area under the Tonto police station, to stop their campaign against security forces. After confirming this information, a joint operation team was constituted with the District Police, 60 Battalion of the CRPF, and the Jharkhand Jaguar.

For security reasons, these detonators have been defused with the assistance of the bomb disposal squad at the same location. Operations continue in this area.
On May 28, Maoists looted a vehicle carrying five tonnes of explosives from a warehouse at Bargaon in Sundargarh district of Odisha to Banko stone mine in Keblang police station area. Four tonnes of explosives were recovered from the Saranda forest during an operation by the CRPF and police.
The remaining explosives could not be located. Police are now trying to determine whether the recovered detonators are linked to the same robbery.
