Mahathir: We Want To Remove Zakir Naik From Malaysia

Mahathir: We want to remove Zakir Naik from Malaysia. Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad said that Malaysia wants to send the controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik to any country except India but most countries do not want to take him.

It is noteworthy that Indian security agencies have been searching for Zakir Naik for spreading communal frenzy and money laundering. He fled abroad in 2016. He has been based in Malaysia for a long time after wandering in many countries. He was allowed to live permanently by Mahathir.

Mahathir claimed Zakir Naik is not safe from the Indian people in Malaysia. We want to send him to another country so that he will be safe there. But many countries are not willing to take it with them.

In a conversation with the WION channel, Mahathir admitted that his remarks on Kashmir led to tension in his country’s relations with India. It also said that under his leadership apart from this the relations between the two countries were very good.

Mahathir was at one time the world’s longest-serving elected leader. He is trying to return to power. He said that he has been making comments about matters around the world. He was asked why the India-Malaysia relationship deteriorated during his time as Prime Minister.

In fact, during his address to the United Nations General Assembly in September 2019, Mahathir had raised the issue of Kashmir. India’s Foreign Ministry had reacted strongly to this. The Ministry of External Affairs had said that India completely rejects the reference about Jammu and Kashmir which is an integral part of India.

The former Prime Minister of Malaysia said, our relations with India have always been very good. But sometimes due to minor disturbances, events had an immediate impact on the relationship at that time, but very quickly we removed such tensions in our relationship.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among the global leaders who first met when he (Mahathir) became the Prime Minister for the second time.

Mahathir said that apparently, we met a long time ago. I forgot, but he (Modi) showed us a picture before he became Prime Minister. He said that he had met Prime Minister Modi and had a good discussion with him.
