Madras High Court has granted conditional bail to former minister Jayakumar’s daughter and son-in-law in a land grab case.

The issue came from former minister Jayakumar’s son-in-law Naveen Kumar and his brother Mahesh Kumar over land ownership of 8 Ground in Chennai.

Mahesh Kumar had complained that former minister Jayakumar had used his influence to extort land from slaves and make death threats.

Based on the complaint, the Chennai Central Crime Branch police registered a case against Jayakumar, his son-in-law Naveen Kumar and daughter Jayapriya under six sections including death threats and conspiracy.

Jayakumar, who was arrested in the case, was granted conditional bail by the Chennai High Court.

Further, Jayakumar’s daughter Jayapriya and son-in-law Naveen Kumar had filed a petition in the Chennai High Court while the Alandur court had dismissed their pre-bail application.

The petition states that they were late in reporting the incident 6 years ago and were charged 8 months later.

While the civil case is pending in the Alandur court, the petition states that a case has been registered against former minister Jayakumar.

Jayakumar has nothing to do with the case, and he should be granted bail in the case, which has been registered with political motives.

When the petition came up for hearing before Judge Jagadish Chandra earlier, counsel P Anandan, appearing for the complainant Maheshkumar, objected to granting bail to the two.

He further contended that Naveen Kumar and Mahesh were not currently partners in the troubled fishing net manufacturing company.

Former minister Jayakumar had used his political influence to intimidate himself into taking computer and accounting documents from his office.
