Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Story.

According to Pandit Indramani Ghansyal, it is believed that in ancient times a king named Maharaja Chandrasen used to reign in Ujjain.

King Chandrasen was a great devotee of Lord Shiva and his subjects also worshiped Lord Shiva.

Once King Ripudaman from the neighboring kingdom attacked Chandrasen’s palace. During this, a demon named Dushan also started atrocities on the subjects.

Suffering from the atrocities of the demon, the people called upon Lord Shiva, then pleased with his devotion, Lord Shiva tore the earth and appeared in the form of Mahakal and killed the demon.

It is said that seeing the devotion of the subjects and their request, Lord Shiva sat in Ujjain in the form of Jyotirlinga forever.

Special Aarti of Lord Shiva.

Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is worshiped in Brahma Muhurta. During this, Lord Shiva is adorned with ashes. Bhasma Aarti of Lord Shiva is famous all over the world.

It is believed that the darshan of Mahakaleshwar remains incomplete without seeing the Bhasma Aarti. It is considered taboo for women to watch Bhasma Aarti.

The priest can only wear a dhoti during the aarti. Shiva is offered ashes made from the Shami tree, Peepal, Palas, and Kapila cow dung.

Here the royal ride of Mahakal and Nagchandreshwar temple also attracts tourists. At the time of Lord Shiva’s aarti, it seems as if Lord Shiva is around us.
