A lockdown has been imposed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, USA.

Base spokeswoman Stacy Geiger said reports of an active shooter came shortly before midnight at around 9:25 p.m.

Geiger said preparedness for the emergency situation is ongoing.

It was told that additional security forces have been deployed at the airbase and the situation remains tense.

A media briefing on the matter is also expected. The 88th Airbase Wing tweeted at around 10 pm that security personnel was searching a building.

Emergency teams are also carefully investigating reports received at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center.

“All our military and civilian personnel have been informed to immediately assess the situation and take appropriate action,” the airbase said in another tweet.

The lockdown has been announced over loudspeakers at the base, which is located just east of Dayton, Ohio. The airbase said it would update other information as it becomes available.
