Kerala cabinet decides to withdraw cases related to Sabarimala and CAA protests.

Taking a major decision on Wednesday, the Kerala government is withdrawing cases related to the Sabarimala temple and the cases registered against the CAA protest.

It was reported that the Kerala cabinet has decided to withdraw cases related to the Sabarimala and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests which are not of serious criminal nature.

The Left Democratic Front-led government in Kerala has said that it will withdraw cases registered during the Sabarimala movement.

However, on this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that this step has been taken in view of the assembly elections to be held later this year.

More than 50,000 people were booked in connection with the agitation. The violence was witnessed in Kerala following the 2018 Supreme Court ruling.

Even five times had to be arrested in Kerala. The Supreme Court had then decreed allowing women of all ages to enter the Sabarimala temple.

On 28 September 2018, the Supreme Court gave a verdict of 4-1, allowing women of all ages to enter the temple.

The court quashed the ban on the entry of women between 10 and 50 years, terming them gender-based discrimination. After this, all the reconsideration petitions were filed.

Let us know that the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) last week demanded that such cases be withdrawn.

On 15 February, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala alleged that the LDF government had registered cases against thousands of people participating in these protests, including Ayyappa devotees who protested against the Supreme Court order.
