Islamabad High Court to hear hearing on new internet media law, journalists demanded to end.

The Federal Union of Journalists of Pakistan has requested the Islamabad High Court to abolish the Internet Media Act 2020. The case is scheduled for hearing today.

The Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content Rules 2020, created by Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology (PTA), was enacted on November 19.

The petition mentions the sections that allow the PTA to block online content that is against the interests, security and defense of ‘Islam’, Pakistan.

Google, Facebook and Twitter threaten to leave the country due to new law

The Internet media organization Asia Internet Coalition (AIC), representing these companies, called the rule opaque.

On this rule, the organization said that it is not possible to give the information and data required by the government under these manual rules.

It will harm the freedom of the people. In such a situation it will not be possible to provide services of these companies in Pakistan.

It is worth noting that the Pakistani government recently enacted the Removal and Blocking of Un-Lawful Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguard) Rules 2020.
