Following the army withdrawal, India and China have begun patrolling the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, putting an end to the conflict in Depsang and Demchok. According to military sources, the Indian Army on Friday started patrolling with its patrolling party on the forward front of Demschok. Patrolling will also be started soon by Indian soldiers in the area of ​​​​Depsang.

Indian Army did patrolling

Confirming the resumption of patrolling in Demchok after four and a half years, military sources said that the Indian Army did patrolling as per the agreed agreement. During this, they did not face any obstruction. As per the agreement between India and China to end the confrontation in Depsang and Demchok, both sides have to share advance information about their patrolling with each other.

Accordingly, Indian soldiers on Friday went to the front line in Demchok area with their patrol team of about 12-15 soldiers and did patrolling. The Indian Army’s stand was clear from the beginning that ensuring the situation before April 2020 at both these places would be the basis of the agreement. Therefore, it is believed that the latest agreement has restored the earlier situation in both these areas after four and a half years.

There will be 15 soldiers on the patrolling team

As per the agreement reached to end the confrontation between Depsang and Demchok, India and China will keep a maximum of 15 soldiers in their patrolling team. The source also said that after verifying each other’s information after the withdrawal of the soldiers, sweets were exchanged between Indian and Chinese soldiers on the day of Diwali at some other forward fronts of LAC including Depsang and Demchok. Apart from these two forward fronts, sweets were also distributed at all five border-meeting points on the LAC. This included Bum La and Wacha-Kibithu in Arunachal Pradesh, Chushul-Moldo and Daulat Beg Oldi in Ladakh Nathu La in Sikkim, and some other places.

Other points of contention on the LAC will be resolved through the ongoing process of communication between the two nations at the level of local commanders. Meanwhile, in Itanagar, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju celebrated Diwali with Indian soldiers at Bum La in Arunachal Pradesh. On the occasion, he praised the developments at the Indian border and said in a post on Twitter, “After interacting with Chinese soldiers and seeing the infrastructure, everyone now feels proud of the development of the Indian border.” In another tweet, he said that Diwali was celebrated at the Tawang military helipad during the day. Our brave soldiers have made us proud and we are grateful to them. Our country is safe only because of their commitment and courage.
