The result is an agreement signed in May 2024 for co-management of Chabahar Port, under which the management of a part of this highly strategic port of Iran has been given to the Indian company.

There was also discussion between the two leaders on formulating a long-term policy to increase bilateral trade.

Currently, there are US sanctions on Iran due to which India is not able to do business openly with it. Governments on both sides are trying to find a solution to this ban.

But in the previous two years, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has visited Iran thrice while Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and NSA Ajit Doval visited Iran once each.

In an interview with the media, PM Modi described the Chabahar Port as very important for India’s strategic interests and said that India wishes to establish contact with Afghanistan and the countries of Central Asia through it.
