Modi last met Raisi at the BRICS summit held in Johannesburg in September 2023. After this, new momentum was felt in bilateral relations.
The result is an agreement signed in May 2024 for co-management of Chabahar Port, under which the management of a part of this highly strategic port of Iran has been given to the Indian company.

Currently, there are US sanctions on Iran due to which India is not able to do business openly with it. Governments on both sides are trying to find a solution to this ban.

India has spent a lot of money on developing Chabahar Port.

In an interview with the media, PM Modi described the Chabahar Port as very important for India’s strategic interests and said that India wishes to establish contact with Afghanistan and the countries of Central Asia through it.
In this regard, PM Modi has termed the recent agreement between India and Iran as a milestone. After Raisi’s death, India will keep an eye on the situation in Iran.
The possibility of some impact on India’s plan to develop Chabahar Port cannot be ruled out.
