This tank was created by the private business Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). The Defense Ministry said on Thursday, that the Indian light tank has achieved a major achievement by firing several rounds at different ranges with consistently accurate results at an altitude of over 4200 meters.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has complimented the Army, Air Force, L&T, and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on the tank’s successful tests.

China has deployed similar tanks in this area

DRDO Administrator Sameer V Kamat saluted the whole group including L&T for their endeavors. The Indian Armed Forces is thinking about sending in excess of 350 light tanks. Most of these tanks will be deployed in the mountainous border areas. China has deployed similar tanks in this area.

Approved projects for K-9 howitzers and Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft

Under the Make in India campaign in the defense sector, the Cabinet Committee on Security Affairs (CCS) on Thursday approved two major projects for 12 Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft for the Flying Corps and 100 K-9 Vajra programmed howitzers for the Military. Both these undertakings are assessed to cost around Rs 20 thousand crore.

Defense sources said both the projects have been approved by the CCS and the contract for the Sukhoi-30 MKI jets has been signed. The 12 Su-30 MKI jets for the Air Force will be manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) at its Nashik plant and will cost around Rs 13,000 crore. These will replace the aircraft that have been destroyed in the last several years. Larsen & Toubro will manufacture 100 K-9 self-propelled howitzers at its Hazira plant in Gujarat.

Larsen & Toubro has got a repeat order for these guns. 100 weapons have proactively been enlisted into the military. The company has increased the indigenous equipment in the howitzer. The two projects awarded to public sector Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Larsen & Toubro are also expected to strengthen small and medium firms in their supply chains. Howitzer guns are deployed in the desert region as well as on the Chinese border in the Ladakh area.
