India Refrained From Voting On UNGA Resolution On Myanmar

India refrained from voting on UNGA resolution on Myanmar, know what it said. India withdrew from voting on the UN General Assembly resolution on Myanmar.

India’s Ambassador to the United Nations TS Tirumurti made a statement on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution on Myanmar.

India maintains that it disagrees with the proposed draft and that the international community is striving for a peaceful settlement in the matter and therefore being a neighbour, a ‘constructive approach’ is important.

This draft resolution has the support of 119 countries, while Belarus is against it, while India has 34 more countries that did not vote.

Representing India in the United Nations, the Permanent Ambassador said that India’s efforts to restore the democratic process in Myanmar will continue and will not fail to give respect to the aspirations and hopes of the people there.

He also said, “India is also trying to resolve the issue of the return of the displaced Rohingya community from Rakhine province.”

India Refrained From Voting On UNGA Resolution: Clarifying on India’s decision not to vote on the draft, he said, “India’s views are not being reflected in the draft.

We would like to reiterate that it is important to adopt a consultative and constructive approach from Myanmar’s neighboring countries and regions if the international community is ready to find a peaceful solution to this issue.

Let us inform that the UNGA passed a resolution on Myanmar, which stated that the will of the common people through the results of the general election of November 8, 2020.

This should be respected by the Armed Forces of Myanmar to end the state of emergency in the country and To respect the human rights of the people.

On this draft, 119 countries agreed (yes) in voting, while Belarus disagreed (no). Apart from this, 35 other countries including India, China and Russia abstained from voting.

The five-point agreement on Myanmar and the ASEAN initiative was welcomed by India’s Permanent Envoy to the United Nations, Tirumurti.

“The diplomatic activities between us will aim to further strengthen these efforts,” he said. We call for the release of detained leaders and upholding the law.
