On Thursday, India criticized developed countries for creating the climate crisis during a landmark hearing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). It said that the countries exploited the global carbon budget and failed to honor climate-finance promises. Not only this, developed countries are now demanding that developing countries limit the use of their resources.
India also asked the ICJ to refrain from imposing additional duties on top of the current framework for climate change. Arguing on behalf of India, Luther M Rangreji, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, said that due care can be taken to avoid creating new or additional obligations beyond those already agreed under the existing climate-change regime.
