In December, 12.06 lakh new members were added to the Social Security Scheme of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). Earlier in the month of November 2020, 9.48 lakh shareholders were added.

According to the latest data, 8.87 lakh subscribers were involved in ESIC’s social security scheme in June 2020, 4.89 lakh in May, and 2.63 lakh in April.

This data from the National Statistics Office (NSO) indicates the employment situation in the organized sector.

Last year, the government imposed a nationwide ‘lockdown’ on March 25 to prevent the coronavirus epidemic. Explain that with the relaxation of lockdown, the number of employees joining the ESIC scheme has increased.

In July 2020, the total registration dropped to 7.63 lakh. However, it rose to 9.5 lakhs in August, 11.58 lakhs in September, and 12.06 lakhs in October 2020.

According to the NSO report, the total number of subscribers joining ESI in 2019-20 stood at 1.51 crore which was 1.49 crore in 2018-19. From September 2017 to March 2018, 83.35 lakh new subscribers joined the scheme of ESIC.

According to the report, a total of 4.63 crore shareholders joined ESIC from September 2017 to December 2020.

The NSAO report is based on data on regular payrolls of people linked to various social security schemes operated by the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO).

ESIC, and the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). These figures of these organizations are being released from April 2018.

According to the report, the total number of shareholders joining EPFO ​​stood at 12.53 lakh in December from 8.70 lakh in November 2020.

According to NSO data, from September 2017 to December 2020, 3.94 crore new shareholders joined the Employees Provident Fund Scheme.
